This is a video about how to Season your Cast Iron Pan or skillet. No matter if your pan is new or old. This method will work if you are trying to season it or restore it.
First, you need to find out if your cooking surface is smooth or not. Take your hand and rub it across the cooking surface to see if it is smooth or not. If it is smooth you can go over to the next process of heating and oiling the pan. If your pan is not smooth then you will want to take some sandpaper and start sanding down the cooking surface. All sides and walls of the pan and in rough spots or raised edges or corners. Once the pan is sanded down the color may change a bit which is fine. It may turn grey or white under the black surface. Wash your pan out and then dry it off completely.
Take your pan and place them in the oven at 200 degrees for 20 minutes. Take them out and then apply your oil to all sides of the pan inside and out. Make sure to wipe down thoroughly you only want a thin layer of oil on the pan. Then place them in the oven at 400 degrees for an hour. Leave the oven door closed the whole time after the hour is up turn the oven off and allow for the oven and pan to cool with the door remaining closed. You may need to repeat this process a couple of times 3-4 times. The more times you do it the better and the smoother the cooking surface will be.
